Colossians 3:1-2 (NIV)
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
From people cutting you off in traffic to double charges for the items you decided you did not want, life can throw a lot of little situations that can easily make you lose your focus.
Late yesterday morning, I was praising God that for once I did not get so irritated and complained under my breath when a motorist had cut me off in traffic. My heart was just plain grateful that though this individual did not make the best decisions as (s)he was driving their big truck, an accident did not happen before me. I prayed a quick prayer for the driver as I praised God for keeping me and those around the truck safe.
I wish that I could say that I had the same attitude after noting that I had two pending charges on my credit card for some wrong car parts that I ordered via the phone. Okay, so I did thank God that because of an issue with his ordering system not taking my credit card, the first sales representative sent me an email of what he was trying to order for me.
Alright, yes, I am dumb when it comes to cars and that was the reason why I called https://parts.olathetoyota.com/ after spending 2 hours online trying to figure out what a brake rotor was. (I think that the rotor just refers to the disc of the disc brake – crazy what different people call things.) But at least I knew that I needed rear brakes rather than front brakes. So, thank you God that he had gotten an error in his system so that I could see with my own eyes that we did not communicate well about my need.
However, after getting two alerts on my phone for two separate charges from the company, my attitude quickly changed. The order apparently did go through and now I would be getting front brake parts instead of what I needed! Ugh! So, I called https://parts.olathetoyota.com/ again and got a different gentleman. I explained the situation to him, and he said though he could change the quote that was sent to me, the ordering system was not processing the first order so he could not cancel it. However, he could see that my card was charge twice for the order. The best he could offer was to ask me for the credit card information again and ask the cashier to manually put in a refund. I informed him that I would check with my credit card company. After getting the usual “we must wait for the charges to no longer be pending before we can dispute” from the credit card company, the 2nd gentleman called me back and said that he was finally able to reverse both charges. Praise God! I thanked him of course. But unfortunately, because my mindset was still stuck on just having such an attitude, it was just one of those nonchalant types of “thank you”.
I post this story for 2 reasons. One of course to give a shout out to the 2nd gentleman who called me back. I am sorry that I was so wrapped up in my issues that I did not get your name nor did I thank you properly. Thank you so much for calling me back to let me know that you had taken care of me even while off our call! The other reason is why I posted the scripture. When we are so worried and preoccupied with what is going on with our own lives and lose our focus, we can often neglect to truly thank and encourage others around us from deep down in our hearts. God has shown me that it is so easy to be distracted with life that I can ignore the beautiful blessings that God has given me. Truly what a blessing it is to still be alive for one more day.
Father God, please keep my heart and mind opened to seeing things your way, focused on those things above where Jesus is seated at your right-hand interceding for me. For your glory always. Amen.
